My work is intended to embellish everyday life. From envelopes sent to friends, murals in homes, window hangings, and more
Inspiration
I am inspired by northwest scenery and all its glory: fauna, flora, habitats, environments, and seasons. I enjoy attempting the juxtaposition of things I love with things that obscure its beauty. Fragmented images showing only part of the whole, antiqued or weathered looks. I work to balance the rudimentary and crude elements with refined elegance, polished precious metals or stones, a tender moment, or my favorite scenery.
Influences
I am heavily influenced by ornamentation, calligraphy, sumi-e, motifs /symbology, ancient bronzes and botanical patterns or details. I value old and worn items, because they reflect the love we have for familiar, and things we hold near and dear.
Materials & Techniques
for nearly 20 years I worked with clay, creating ceramic sculptures. I have shifted my work to me more friendly to nature, using less resources and electricity. I have designs that were created in my ceramic phase that have transferred nicely into the 2 dimensional realm and found a new life using embossing, ink and paper.
